The Group
If you like to serve the greater good, thrive to see positive change in our communities, and are keen to inspire others, you are automatically part of the group. There is no permanent leadership or management, and so all can be strong leaders and all can be humble advocates. If you have an idea or event that supports our mission, please propose what you would like to do, and our ‘core’ and group will support your every move.
- All welcome to all meetings
- All can be part of decision-making process
- Core*provides reliable gateway for success
- All are sevadars and all can lead
Example A: Sandeep’s very close cousin Rob recently passed away in a car accident involving a drunk driver. Rob was an aspiring basketball player and a role model for Sandeep. Sandeep wants Rob’s death to mean something and decides bring about a positive change from this event. He wants to support the action of MADD (Mothers against drunk driver), and but doesn’t know how. He talks to DM and they decide to hold a basketball tournament in Rob’s honor that raises money for MADD and also advises people about the harsh reality of drinking and driving. The core provides a list of potential venues, a list of potential sponsors and fund raising activities, and a group of people that have some expertise in such events. Sandeep determines the day, venue, and logistics of the event, and DM begins to advertise, fund raise, and help Sandeep in any way to prepare for the event.
*Core
Our core is a group of sevadars that demonstrate leadership and accountability. These individuals serve the group, so the group can serve the entire community. The core exists to provide resources and rationality in the management of different events. Any set individuals up for the challenge can lead the events themselves. There are no special core meetings, as they are there to support the foundation of the group for many different events.
Core responsibilities:
Communications - emails, webspace, facebook
Resources - for group meetings (locations, equipment, etc.)
Accountability – attending all meetings so that there is foundation of dependability and fidelity
Support – providing any support required by group individuals to carry out events.
Core members must be:
- Accountable
- Resourceful
- Non-judgmental
- Open minded
- Rational/Reasonable
- Friendly/Approachable
Core Member selection process rules:
- Maximum term as core member is 1 year, so new individuals can step up and take responsibility
- Maximum of 2 people can “step down” as core members at a time, and allow 2 new people into group
- Selection process will be an yearly vote at a random time and location. Nobody other than core members will know voting will be taking place at this time
- Core members will vote as well and each core members vote is equivalent to 3 regular votes
- Should be an overlap with “incoming” and “outgoing” core members, so sufficient mentorship and passing of work, ideas, tips etc can take place
