Seva
The oblivious reality of this digital age is that most are concerned more with the basic needs of their cellphone plan than the basic needs of their fellow human being. We may not be able to directly help the 1.2 billion people that live on less than $1 a day, but we can give our time and energy to help the over 4000 Calgarians that live in poverty.
Many homeless Calgarians never have to question where to sleep and if they will eat, mainly due to the efforts of many well established charitable organizations. It is our duty to selflessly serve for the greater good, and here is our opportunity.
In support of the Sikh Volunteer Group, there will be monthly SEVA opportunities at both The Mustard Seed and The Calgary Drop In Center. These monthly events will be on weekends, and require anywhere from 4-12 young adults (16+) to serve food for an hour. That is one less hour of TV, facebook, texting, Xbox, etc....If you are interested, please email sikhyc@gmail.com along with your name and phone number.
